SAS2018 brings together diverse individuals from many backgrounds and nations. SAS2018’s people contribute a wide range of experiences, ways of thinking, and problem-solving styles. This rich diversity is key to SAS2018’s success. When SAS2018 respects, fosters, and integrates each person’s unique and creative approaches, it leverages individual strengths to achieve excellence.

Gender balance and the IUCr

The following statement on gender balance was proposed by the Executive Committee and approved by the General Assembly of the IUCr at the 24th Congress and General Assembly in Hyderabad, 2017.

The International Union of Crystallography strives to achieve gender balance in all its institutions and activities bearing in mind other diversity needs and its existing obligations to geographic and academic discipline representation where appropriate.
To achieve this aim the IUCr will adopt procedures to promote gender balance in respect of all of its activities including selection of candidates for positions on its Committees and Commissions. Those seeking support from the Union for Congresses, meetings, workshops and schools will also have to demonstrate their efforts to address gender balance.

IUCr Scientific Freedom Policy Statement

The SAS2018 Conference Organizers shall observe the basic policy of non-discrimination and affirm the right and freedom of scientists to associate in international scientific activity without regard to such factors as ethnic origin, religion, citizenship, language, political stance, gender, sex or age, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science.

At SAS2018, no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists.
